The League of Legends World Championship main stage opens on Friday, October 23, and it is the centrepiece of a packed esports weekend. Worlds 2026 moves from the Play-In in Los Angeles to the Swiss Stage in Allen, Texas, while PARI Universe 2026 keeps Dota 2 fans busy in Europe, the VALORANT Game Changers Championship 2026 gets going in São Paulo, and the CIS LAN Championship wraps up its Counter-Strike 2 playoffs. Here is what is on and why it matters.

Worlds 2026: Sixteen Teams, One Arena in Texas

This is the fifth time the United States has hosted Worlds and the first time a major international League of Legends event has come to Texas. The Swiss Stage and the knockout rounds through the semifinals are played at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, an 8,100-seat arena. The tournament then moves to Barclays Center in Brooklyn for the final, closing on November 14. The base prize pool is $5,000,000, with $1,000,000 going to the champion.

The Swiss format is simple to follow and brutal to play. Sixteen teams play up to five rounds. Three wins send a team to the knockout bracket, three losses send it home, and each round pairs teams with the same record. The Swiss Stage runs October 23 to 26, then October 28 to 31, before the best-of-five knockout matches begin.

Round 1: Eight Best-of-Ones, Back to Back

Friday starts at 17:00 UTC (noon local time) with eight single games played one after another. The draw put Tier 1 seeds against Tier 4 teams and Tier 2 against Tier 3, with no regional rematches allowed in the opening round:

  • Gen.G vs Invictus Gaming
  • Hanwha Life Esports vs Top Esports
  • Bilibili Gaming vs Movistar KOI
  • Anyone's Legend vs Karmine Corp
  • G2 Esports vs Dplus KIA
  • Team Liquid vs CTBC Flying Oyster
  • Los Grandes vs T1
  • Team Secret Whales vs LYON

A single loss in round one does not end anyone's run, but nobody wants to start from 0-1 and spend the next week one game from elimination.

The Storylines Worth Following

T1 and the four-peat. T1 arrive as three-time defending champions after lifting the trophy in 2023, 2024 and 2025. They qualified as the LCK's third seed this year, which is why they open against Los Grandes, the CBLOL Split 2 champions, in the last-but-one game of the day.

Korea's other heavyweights. Gen.G come in as LCK champions and face Invictus Gaming, the LPL's fourth seed. Hanwha Life Esports, the 2026 MSI winners, draw Top Esports in one of the biggest LCK vs LPL games of the opening day. Dplus KIA, the fourth Korean team, open against G2 Esports.

LPL looking for a breakthrough. Anyone's Legend won LPL Split 3 and open against Karmine Corp. Bilibili Gaming, in through championship points, take on Movistar KOI, the LEC summer runners-up.

Karmine Corp's momentum. Karmine Corp are the only team to come through the Play-In. They edged Cloud9 KIA 3-2, then swept MVK Esports 3-0 twice, the second time in the qualification match on October 18, to earn their Swiss spot.

The Americas. Team Liquid won the LCS summer title and face CTBC Flying Oyster from the LCP. LYON, the LCS runners-up, close the day against Team Secret Whales, the LCP Split 3 champions.

Dota 2: PARI Universe 2026 Group Stage

PARI Universe 2026 is an online event on Europe West servers, organised by FISSURE with a $250,000 prize pool and $125,000 for first place. Ten invited and qualified teams are split into two round-robin groups of five. Every group series is a best-of-three, the top four from each group advance to a double-elimination playoff from October 28 to November 1, and the grand final is a best-of-five.

Day one set the tone. Team Spirit, who won The International 2026 by beating TEAM VISION 3-2 to become the first three-time TI champions, opened with a 2-0 over LEGION. Team Yandex, fresh off winning BLAST SLAM VIII, swept GamerLegion 2-0 with Xibbe announced as a stand-in for an ill ATF. Team Liquid beat 1w Team 2-0 after a 77-minute first game.

Saturday, October 24 brings the two headline series. Team Yandex vs OG starts at 11:00 UTC, with OG fielding Topson in the mid lane. At 14:00 UTC, Team Spirit face BetBoom Team in Group B. BetBoom are coached by TORONTOTOKYO and built around Kiritych, Save-, MieRo, swedenstrong and Kataomi, and this is their first big test of the event. On Friday, Team Liquid vs GamerLegion is a rematch of the BLAST SLAM VIII decider that GamerLegion won 2-0.

VALORANT: Game Changers Championship 2026

The VALORANT Game Changers Championship 2026 runs from October 22 to November 1 at the Riot Games Arena in São Paulo. Ten teams play a double-elimination bracket for a $500,000 prize pool, with $180,000 for the winner. Every series is a best-of-three, except the lower bracket final and grand final, which are best-of-five.

North America's Shopify Rebellion Gold and EMEA's G2 Gozen start with byes into the second round. Friday's openers include Team Liquid Brazil, the Brazil #1 seed, against Gentle Mates GC, and KRÜ Blaze against Gen.G GC. With a home crowd behind Team Liquid Brazil and MIBR GC, the arena should be loud all weekend.

Counter-Strike 2: CIS LAN Championship Playoffs

In Counter-Strike 2, the MPKBK CIS LAN Championship #9 reaches its last day. The offline event in Russia started with 16 teams and has a $50,000 prize pool. The quarterfinals on October 22 included Nemesis vs WW, ACES vs CYBSHOKE, K27 vs NEXORA and UPGRADE vs Virtus.pro. The semifinals and best-of-five grand final are on October 23. Virtus.pro, who face UPGRADE late on October 22, are the biggest name in the bracket.
